A water filter that leaks after a cartridge change needs a safe shutdown before another attempt at tightening. Water near electrical equipment, a cracked housing or an uncontrolled leak warrants immediate isolation using the system's instructions and professional help where needed. The objective is to identify the failed seal or connection, not to apply more force until the drip temporarily stops.

Identify where the water begins

From a safe position, distinguish a housing joint from a tube connection, cartridge head or nearby plumbing joint. Water can run along a pipe and drip somewhere else, so the lowest wet point is not necessarily the source. If the leak cannot be observed without exposure to electrical hazards or uncontrolled spray, stop and call a qualified technician.

Turn off the relevant supply and release pressure exactly as the manufacturer directs before opening any part. Never attempt to loosen a pressurised housing. If the system includes a storage tank or pump, the manual may specify additional isolation steps. Keep the work area dry enough to notice whether a new leak develops during the final check.

Check the part and seal against the manual

Confirm the exact cartridge model and orientation. Similar dimensions do not establish compatibility with the housing or head. Examine the seal and its seating surface for damage or debris only after safe depressurisation. Use replacement seals and any lubricant specifically approved for the equipment; do not apply an arbitrary grease, adhesive or sealant to a drinking-water component.

A housing that is visibly cracked or distorted should not be repaired with tape or extra tightening. Stop using it and seek an appropriate replacement or service assessment.

Treat tube connections as a separate fault

A damaged tube end or a fitting under side load may need correction rather than repeated pushing and pulling. Do not improvise a fitting that has not been specified for the pressure and drinking-water application.

If you are uncertain how to release or reseat a connection, arrange service. Repeated manipulation can worsen a small problem and make the eventual diagnosis harder. Keep photographs and the part number so the technician can bring the appropriate replacement components.

Verify through a normal operating cycle

Follow the prescribed return-to-service and flushing procedure, then inspect the repaired area during use and after the system returns to its normal state. A dry joint at low pressure may still leak later. Keep access available for a follow-up check and know where the shutoff is located. If leakage returns, isolate the system and obtain service rather than leaving towels beneath a fault that has not been resolved.
