Automatic PAM Make-Down Skids: Check Grade Compatibility

Match a proposed PAM grade to the installed wetting, maturation and dosing system before approving routine supply for a treatment plant.

An automatic PAM make-down skid does not make every polymer grade operationally interchangeable. Before approving supply, check whether the proposed product can be wetted, prepared, matured and delivered within the installed system's capacity. A grade that works in a laboratory may still require changes that must be priced and verified at the plant.

Describe the actual preparation arrangement

Provide the product form, feeder type, preparation-water source, batch or continuous configuration and available maturation volume. Include the normal and peak demand. Ask the equipment supplier which product characteristics and operating ranges are supported. Do not infer compatibility from the word automatic or from the nominal tank volume alone.

If a new formulation changes preparation requirements, identify the dependency before purchase. A product that needs more time than the installation can provide should not be accepted on the assumption that operators will compensate by increasing dose.

Check the complete delivery path

Review wetting, transfer, storage and dosing rather than stopping at the first mixing tank. Record solution concentration on defined units and verify actual pump delivery where required. Ask how the proposed method fits periods of low demand, planned shutdown and restart. Follow supplier and equipment instructions instead of improvising chemical cleaning or incompatible product mixtures.
